Switch To This Mindset To Yield Results You Never Thought Possible
Often we don’t realize we have this mindset.
The old definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. There’s been so many books written on a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. However, most people that have a fixed mindset are completely oblivious to the fact that they have a fixed mindset.
When I discovered some of my favorite blogs and YouTube channels years ago, I wanted to watch and read all the content that they had to offer. It seemed endless. I was trying to crunch in years of content all at once.
After a while, I noticed something. None of the lessons or information that I watched in the video was being applied in my life. I would skim over the information, think it’s interesting, and essentially move on as the same person that I was before.
I took note of this and decided that I needed to slow down on my consumption of information. After reading something, I decided to take a pause and note what my biggest takeaways were. If I were short on time, I would dedicate time later to reflect on my words. This mindset shift helped me expand on my writing. Much of the content that I was consuming was starting to help me produce.
The Informational Mindset
An informational mindset is a mindset that wants to consume information. It’s the mindset when you are skimming through articles, going down your social media feeds and watching videos on repeat without taking anything in.
The informational mindset loves the novelty of new information. Discovering new things is enjoyable. However, our brains can only retain so much information.
Our brains need time to process information and synthesize it. I know that I couldn’t even tell you 1/2 the information that I read yesterday.
The Analytical Mindset
When you have an analytical mindset, it means that you take time to digest the information that you learn.
Ask yourself, what was the reason for taking notes when you were in school? It was for you to note down the important topics to reflect upon later when studying.
Take a similar approach to learning anything. Slow down a little and ask yourself, what is the meaning of this? How does this apply to me? What times in my life has this applied to me?
Asking yourself these questions can help you dig deeper and see patterns in your life, so you can make actual change in your life.
Focus On What Matters
What matters to you? What do you want to learn? There’s a lot of junk food knowledge out there that doesn’t add value to our day-to-day lives.
Choose what you consume wisely. Even though you have the option to consume anything, it doesn’t mean you should try to read everything.
